It was yesterday that I wondered…am I missing out on the last days of Summer. It was just a fleeting thought. Soon it will be my Birthday and I recall of days gone by where we over Easter would pack up the car and go to resort in a small town in the Western Cape called Ceres.I recall how we will stop at some villages allowing my mom to drop off clothes and hamper treats consisting of cookies, sweets and chocolates for the kids. We would always be a little bit upset as those were our holiday treats. At the one farm-house they would proudly present us with a box of fruit. These fruit came from the locals vineyard. The fruit will consist of the juiciest apricots with bright orange flesh, red soft juicy plums with juices that will liberally flow down the sides of your mouth, the sweetest of prunes and apples – lots and lots of apples. The golden yellow ones called Golden Delicious were my favorite. The bounty of fruit will be our holiday treats with some of the hampers she hid away for us not to see. We always appreciated my mothers gentle gestures as we grew older and remember her for her big heart. On our way home we will go and say goodbye to some of the locals. Some of them were old neighbors who migrated from a beautiful place called Noordhoek where they resided before the Group Areas Act. I would hear the discussions of what is happening in the teaching profession, the country and in the little village as they walked through the garden. Plants, seedling and greetings were exchanged and boxes of apples will be bought and loaded in the boot of our Peugot station wagon.I would sit next to my mom as she would wave and shout out of the window in our mother tongue…”Sien julle volgende Paasfees\”/ See you next Easter. With the older women using a term “Yster for Easter” and us always chuckling in the background.Off we will go with lovely memories and the simple living of Easter at the Chalets in Ceres with its river, pools and shady trees. I always recall those people in that village. People who lived simply. This morning I marveled at the beautiful day and the bright blue sky. It is truly as if God is showing off. I took a gulp of the fresh air that came breezing through the kitchen window. Staring out of the window from this quaint suburban village I could see the mountain in all its glory. It is Autumn.Without a camera I cannot capture this for you to see right now. I am using my eyes this morning just to embrace the beauty all around me. I am marveling at how simple it is is… To see like a child again.Saturday, 4 April – Day 9#21days #Girl locked down in Cape Town
