“You are like the salt for the human race. But if salt loses its saltiness, there is no way to make it salty again. It becomes worthless, so it is thrown out and people trample on it.”I remember hearing a story of how salt, that lost its saltiness during ancient times, were strewn on the ground and people would walk on it. At first I thought but salt can\’t lose its saltiness and after reading up a bit more I discovered that in certain areas like Cyprus this “salt like” compound was found and was strewn on the streets. This “white powder” had no value and off course with people walking on it, it formed pathways. This reminded me of my travels to Mediterranean countries and the beautiful streets! As I was having my coffee during my quiet time I thought of how we lose our saltiness ..How many times do we find ourselves in relationships or situations where others can’t recognize our value. I recall staying in those situations hoping the person or the environment in which I was working in will change. What however occurred was that my morale would drop or I would feel a bit..lesser the person that I am. I would bring in lots of accounts, exceed targets but it was never enough. I constantly heard what I brought in was “not good enough” for my toxic boss who was not a very happy person. I started taking what was said personally and I became a bit “grumpy”.I kind of lost my saltiness from being joyous and inspiring to dull and all I did was work to ensure my boss was happy. I was no longer the high-energy infectious person who would light up a room when I walked in (smiling). Instead I started to complain. The same with relationships. Yes the one that never commits but wants to come in and out of your door and you are always readily available but the person is not really there for you and that behavior is all they know at that point on their journey. In both these circumstances we can either allow this behavior and fall prey to remaining a victim thinking we “not good enough”.In both these circumstances we start feeling worthless and people are basically walking all over us like a doormat as we forgot who we are and our true value which is not something you need to seek from others. It is therefore imperative to know your true identity and that to me is knowing I am created in the image of God. Who He says I am, loved and that there is no need to seek it (worth and validation) from others and discard the lies that we start believing about ourselves by wrong thinking. I feel once we truly know who we are it becomes so much easier to manage these situations by saying \”no thank you\” and to walk away from toxic, hurt people or just not let what I call the outer noise in and love them from a distance. Most of the time these people are hurt and “hurt people, hurt people” unfortunately. The best you can do is to assert yourself and show others how you like to be treated and if they can’t…carry on with your journey called Life. Best not to judge but learn what there is to learn for your own personal and spiritual growth. With every “painful experience” you are given a gift. The opportunity to unlearn the “non truth”. No reason to remain stuck now is there…as it is when we truly know who we are and whose we are that our inner light remains shining irrespective of others behavior or words. – Eleanor“She Changed… her Mind”
