A few weeks ago my reading glasses, which had a mark on the one lens, fell. Still I insisted in wearing them as they felt more comfortable than the other pair in my possession. With one (spectacled) ear only I deftly positioned it in such a manner that I would be able to see pass the speck that hindered me from seeing correctly.
Last week I had enough! And decided to exchange the broken pair for the new set. Wow it felt as if a whole new world opened up before my eyes…At first I thought the visual tone of my phone changed as everything seemed so much brighter, more colourful and beautiful. Everything seemed clearer.
And so it is with our own vision – when we have a bit of a speck in our own eye.
We don’t see ourselves correctly due to what others perhaps might have said about us with their own impaired sight and as we embrace this limited vision and perception of others we cant see ourselves nor others correctly.
It is when we constantly judge others and we focus on “what is wrong with them, what they did or are doing to us that we remain in the place of blameville, shameville, victimville and stuckville.
It is when take the speck out of our own eye and see but there is love, joy, peace in us – all the beautiful things that God says we are that we start seeing ourselves, others and the world differently or should I say – Correctly.
But correction first starts with and within us.
